There are a variety of factors that could cause this error to occur during a backup job. Some of the more common factors are:
- Disk Space: Insufficient free space on the target machine may prevent the upload of the guest agent’s files. Ensure there is adequate free space available.
- Firewall and Security Settings: Ensure that firewalls or security software on the Veeam Backup & Replication server or the target machine does not block access to the administrative share. Verify that the necessary ports for file sharing are open and accessible.
- Verify Access to the Admin Share: Ensure the administrative share (admin$) is accessible from the Veeam Backup & Replication server to the target machine. You can manually check this by accessing the admin share using the same credentials Veeam uses for the backup task.
- Check Credentials: Verify the credentials configured in Veeam Backup & Replication for accessing the administrative share on the target machine. Ensure that the provided username and password have sufficient permissions for access.
- Check and Restart Services: Rebooting Veeam services or those related to file sharing on both the Veeam Backup & Replication server and the target machine can often resolve file upload issues. Restart these services and retry the backup job.
